How to Find Someone on WhatsApp

How do you chat with WhatsApp users who aren’t on your chats tab yet? Unlike other messaging platforms, you can’t search for the phone number or name of random people on WhatsApp. It doesn’t have a centralized directory. You must manually add users to your contacts first.

If you want to find someone on WhatsApp number, search for their contact name in the app. You shouldn’t try to find someone on WhatsApp by just searching for their number. You will have to save their number as a contact first.

To find a contact on WhatsApp, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch WhatsApp and go to Chats in the navigation bar.
  2. Press the New Message icon to open your contact list. On iOS and iPadOS devices, you’ll find the Compose icon at the top-right corner of the screen. Meanwhile, Android users will see a Speech bubble icon above the navigation bar.
  3. Wait for WhatsApp to pull up your contact list, then type the user’s name or number into the Search bar. Make sure you use the name saved on your phone. Also, note that an Invite button beside a contact’s name means they’re not on WhatsApp yet. They’ll have to make an account first.
  4. Finally, tap the user’s name, and a private chat window will load. You can start sending messages there.
