WhatsApp Account on Multiple Phones

Despite the many useful features on WhatsApp, a common problem faced by many users in the past was the inability to use the app on multiple phones. If you are someone who needed access to a feature like this, you can finally rejoice.

Read on to find out how you can use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones.

How to Link Your WhatsApp Account to Another Phone

WhatsApp announced an update to its Linked Devices features that allows users to add additional phones to their account. To use the same WhatsApp number account on two devices or more, ensure you have the latest version of the app installed on both the primary phone and the companion device.

The secondary phone will need a fresh install of WhatsApp.

When both devices are ready, follow these steps:

  1. On your secondary phone, open WhatsApp and tap on Agree and continue.
  2. When it prompts you to enter your phone number, rather tap on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of your screen and tap on Link to existing account.
  3. A QR code will be generated that you now need to scan using WhatsApp on your primary phone. On Android, tap on the three-dot menu and navigate to Linked Devices > Link a device. On iOS, navigate to Settings > Linked Devices > Link a device
    1. If prompted, use your biometric information or phone passcode to add a new device. Scan the QR code on your companion device.

Depending on your internet connection and chat history, WhatsApp will sync all your data on your companion device. A few features like live location cannot be used on secondary devices yet.

To manually remove added companion devices, on your primary phone, navigate to WhatsApp Settings > Linked Devices, select the device you want to remove, and tap on Log out.

How Does the New Companion Mode Work?

Users will be familiar with WhatsApp’s Linked Devices feature if they use WhatsApp on the web. The new companion mode works in a similar fashion but now lets you use B to B Database Android and iOS phones as your companion device.

This means you no longer need to always have access to your primary phone and can still enjoy WhatsApp security features on your secondary device.

You can link up to four additional devices to your primary WhatsApp account. Features such as disappearing messages on WhatsApp and the ability to view statuses are still present on companion phones, though there isn’t a way to add any statuses of your own.

Devices will automatically be logged out if your primary phone goes inactive for more than 14 days. Additionally, you can revoke access to your companion devices from your primary phone.

WhatsApp imports your most recent chat history on companion devices, but to see your full chat history you will need to use your primary phone.
